After twenty years of trying I finally got my up  close great hammerhead encounter.   Distant, fleeting passes were the norm until this trip.  Special thanks to my dive buddy Joe Romeiro for making it finally happen.  Now it seems the whole world knows about Bimini’s iconic shark population, but when planning the trip last year encounters were not nearly “guaranteed”.
To our knowledge this was the first time anyone had intentionally dove with these sharks at night – and we had up to six individuals on our night dives.  I have always loved the great hammerhead and while I don’t play favorites, this is definitely one of my favorite species of sharks.
